“From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD’s name is to be praised.” Psalm 113:3
Sunrise and sunset, two beautiful events that begin and end each day. I am so thankful God blesses us with sunrises and sunsets. Oh, I understand all about the rotation of the earth on its axis and the refraction of light, etc., etc., etc., but, just think, God could have designed the passage of time by just flipping a switch each morning and evening and,…voila! Light and dark. Instead, He paints a twice daily masterpiece for our pleasure and inspiration.
Because of my new work schedule, I’ve been sleeping through sunrise and that makes me sad. My favorite morning routine is to find a comfortable spot with coffee cup in hand and watch a new day dawn. Oh, I’m well aware it can all happen without my assistance, but there’s something about witnessing that wondrous event that makes me feel like I’ve somehow played a part in making it all happen.
A beginning,…..a new day,….a fresh start,….that’s what a sunrise means to me. It’s a 24 hour opportunity to work, to play, to love, to worship,….how wonderful is that?
“….the LORD’s mercies….are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”
And to cap off each day, God gives us one more reminder to praise Him—sunset, a gorgeous way to say, “Good night.”
Sometimes our days are full of joy and happiness and a beautiful sunset is icing on the cake.
And then there are times when we welcome the sunset because it calls to end a horrible, sorrowful day. Those sunsets can minister to our souls by revealing beauty amidst pain and reminding us that just as days come and go, the same will happen to our heartache.
Sunrise and sunset, two opportunities during our day to pause and say, “Thank you, God.”
“The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy.” Psalm 65:8
